Peptide Pen Troubleshooting: Quick Reference
ORYN peptide pens are designed for simplicity and reliability, but occasional issues can arise — usually related to handling, storage, or needle attachment. This guide covers every common issue and provides step-by-step solutions.
If you encounter a problem not covered here, contact ORYN customer support for direct assistance.
Before troubleshooting: Always ensure your pen has been stored correctly at 2-8°C and is within its 24-month shelf life. Many issues stem from improper storage rather than pen malfunction.
Issue 1: Air Bubbles in the Pen Cartridge
Symptom: Visible air bubbles in the solution when holding the pen up to light.
Is this a problem? Small air bubbles (1-2mm) are normal and do not affect dosing accuracy or peptide integrity. They form naturally due to temperature changes and handling.
When to act: Large air pockets (>5mm) or excessive bubbling may indicate temperature damage or a seal issue.
Solution for small bubbles: 1. Hold the pen vertically with the needle end pointing upward 2. Gently tap the cartridge 5-10 times with your finger 3. Small bubbles will rise to the top 4. Prime the pen by dialling 1-2 units and pressing the plunger until a small drop appears at the needle tip 5. This expels the air without wasting significant product
Solution for large air pockets: 1. Check storage temperature — has the pen been left out of the refrigerator? 2. Inspect the pen cap and cartridge seal for damage 3. If the pen was frozen (below 0°C), the solution may have been compromised — contact ORYN for a replacement 4. If stored correctly but large air pockets persist, contact ORYN support

Issue 2: Dose Dial Won't Turn or Clicks Unevenly
Symptom: The dose selector dial is stiff, won't turn, or makes uneven clicking sounds.
Possible causes and solutions:
*Pen is too cold*: - Solution: Remove from refrigerator 15 minutes before use to allow the mechanism to reach room temperature. The dial mechanism can become stiff at low temperatures.
*Pen is at maximum dose*: - Solution: Each pen has a maximum single-dose limit. If you've reached it, the dial will stop. Administer the dialled dose, then dial additional units for the remainder if needed.
*Cartridge is nearly empty*: - Solution: The dial will resist turning if insufficient solution remains for the selected dose. Reduce the dose to match remaining volume. Do not force the mechanism.
*Mechanical issue*: - Solution: If the dial is genuinely jammed (won't turn at all in either direction), do not force it. Contact ORYN customer support for a replacement pen. Do not attempt to disassemble the pen.
Prevention: Always store pens upright (needle end down or horizontal). Avoid dropping or applying lateral pressure to the dose selector.
Issue 3: Needle Attachment Problems
Symptom: Pen needle won't screw on properly, feels loose, or leaks at the connection point.
Solutions:
*Needle won't thread onto pen*: 1. Remove the needle and inspect the pen tip thread for debris or damage 2. Ensure you're using compatible pen needles (standard universal pen needles fit all ORYN Peptide Pens) 3. Align the needle straight (not at an angle) and turn clockwise gently 4. Do not cross-thread — if resistance is felt, remove and retry
*Needle feels loose after attachment*: 1. Tighten by turning clockwise one-quarter turn 2. Do not overtighten — this can strip the thread or damage the rubber seal 3. If still loose, try a different needle from the pack
*Leaking at the needle-pen connection*: 1. Remove the needle 2. Check the pen tip rubber gasket is intact and seated correctly 3. Attach a new needle, ensuring clean alignment 4. Prime the pen (dial 1-2 units, press plunger) to verify seal
Important: Always use a new, sterile needle for each administration. Never reuse pen needles — reuse increases infection risk, dulls the needle (causing discomfort), and can introduce contaminants into the cartridge.
Issue 4: No Solution Dispensed When Plunger Is Pressed
Symptom: You press the plunger but no liquid appears at the needle tip.
Troubleshooting steps:
1. Check the needle: Is the needle attached correctly? Is the outer cap removed? Try priming with 1-2 units first.
2. Check for air: If the cartridge has a large air pocket at the needle end, the first press may expel air rather than solution. Prime again.
3. Check the dose: Is the dose selector set to more than 0? The dial should show your intended dose before pressing.
4. Check the cartridge level: Hold the pen up to light. If the cartridge appears empty, the pen has been fully used. Order a replacement from ORYN.
5. Check for blockage: Occasionally, dried solution can block the needle tip. Replace the needle with a fresh one.
6. Check the plunger: Press the plunger firmly and hold for 10 seconds. Subcutaneous injection requires steady, sustained pressure rather than a quick jab.
MediT Pen specific: The MediT Pen is a prefilled, single-use device. If the plunger has already been fully depressed, the dose has been delivered. MediT Pens are single-use only.
Issue 5: Solution Appears Discoloured or Cloudy
Symptom: The peptide solution looks yellow, brown, cloudy, or contains visible particles.
What's normal: - Clear to very slightly yellow solution is normal for most ORYN peptides - GHK-Cu has a natural blue/blue-green tint (this is normal — copper peptides are naturally coloured) - Tiny bubbles are normal (see Issue 1)
What's NOT normal: - Dark yellow, brown, or amber discolouration - Cloudiness or turbidity (solution should be clear) - Visible particles, flakes, or precipitate - Unusual odour
If you observe abnormal appearance: 1. Do not use the pen — discolouration indicates potential degradation 2. Check storage history — was the pen exposed to heat, light, or freezing? 3. Check the expiry date on the pen label 4. Contact ORYN customer support with a photo of the solution 5. ORYN will arrange a replacement if the product is within its shelf life and was stored correctly
Prevention: Store all ORYN pens at 2-8°C, away from direct light, and within the 24-month shelf life. Do not freeze. Do not store in a car, windowsill, or other location subject to temperature fluctuations.
